Billy “The Kid” Jones shoots up to 50 Bays Games

9 May

Billy Jones played his 50th game for the East Coast Bays First team on Saturday against Auckland City, at Kiwitea Street.

Billy Jones was born on the 1st of May 1998 in Bury, England. Billy was educated at Maraeti Beach School, Howick College and Mount Albert Grammar School.

Over the years Billy has played for Onehunga Sports, Auckland Utd and finally The Mighty East Coast Bays. Billy’s EC Bays 1st team debut was on the 13th of April 2024 against Hamilton Wanderers at Bay City Park in a 2-2 draw where Louie Caunter scored that dramatic injury time equaliser. He scored his first goal for the EC Bays 1st team on the 29th of March 2025 at Bay City Park against Birkenhead Utd in a 4-2 loss. Billy has played in the ECB midfield as well as the centre of defence. He even played in goal at Springs one Saturday night and after making the save of the night he was rightly shown a red card as he wasn’t in fact our goalkeeper!!

Billy’s favourite football teams are of course East Coast Bays as well as Liverpool. Billy’s favourite Bays memory so far is his winning goal against Birkenhead Utd in May 2025 at Shepherds Park in that famous 1-0 win. What Billy likes most about Bays was how quickly he was able to settle into the club when he joined and was made to feel at home straight away. “It is a really supportive community club, and all of the first team players buy into all parts of the club”.

Billy is a teacher at Long Bay College and a coach at East Coast Bays. His hobbies include spending time with friends, playing video games, and enjoying good food. His favourite food is sushi, his favourite drink is Tea, and his favourite music is anything but country music (spot on with that one mate)!!!!! Billy enjoys having a yarn here & there about football and enjoys the gentle wind ups that are taken in his stride by Guy.

Congratulations mate on the milestone of your 50th game for Bays and all the very best for the next 50 or so games. Keep up the great work marshalling the Bays defence.
